Exhibits in Rome: Carlo Levi and Rome The Breath of the City

Until June 16, 2008, a modern art exhibit is underway at the Rome Villa Torlonia museums.

Carlo Levi and Rome. The Breath of the City , the name of the exhibit on the artistic revolution that rocked early twentieth century art.

Numerous paintings are on display, almost fifty by Carlo Levi, by numerous artists from the Roman School. Levi's artwork, his artistic evolution and expressionist influences are unmistakable in the large number of portraits and still lives on display, typical of the artist.

The exhibit at the Casino dei Principi di Villa Torlonia attempts to investigate the bond between Rome and the artist Carlo Levi, juxtaposing his works with those from the Roman School of that era like Pirandello, Mafai, Scipione, Trombadori, Afro, Ferrazzi, Scialoja, Melli and Caporossi, to name a few.

The Turin-born Carlo Levi was a member of the "Sei di Torino" group, displaying his works in Rome at the Quadriennale Romana and Galleria di Roma. During these exhibits, the artist was able to see and come into contact with the cultural changes occurring in the city. Levi was so impressed that you can still see the traces of evolution that rocked Rome at that time in his paintings.

From the Rome Termini station, take line 36 and get off at the Nomentana/Trieste stop. From here, it's a short walk down Via Nomentana.
From the Rome Ostiense station, take subway B and get off at the Termini stop. From here, follow the directions above.
